We intend to have a spot for every player but we need to have a workable number of players/team.
**For the last two seasons we have not had enough players to field a 3rd/4th Grade girls team. Please register ASAP and you will be added immediately to a waitlist until we have enough for a team. In the event we do not, we can connect interested players with Bloomfield Soccer to join a team through them.
Games will be coached solely by parent coaches. We will need MANY volunteers for this purpose (AT LEAST TWO PER TEAM)-- please volunteer to help via the questions in the registration and we will contact you. Any level of soccer knowledge is acceptable as there are many ways to help-- PARENT INVOLVEMENT is the key to creating a cohesive and engaged team. Glen Ridge Soccer Club Board

Dear Glen Ridge Soccer Club families,
We are thrilled to share exciting news that will shape the future of our soccer program. Starting with the Fall 2024 season, Glen Ridge Soccer Club will be partnering with Sticks N’ Kicks/SNK Sports for all our training and coaching needs.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Des and OTA for their invaluable contributions to our program over the years. We wish them great success in their new ventures.
SNK Sports was selected after an extensive evaluation process, which included thorough research, proposal reviews, and firsthand observations of their coaching in neighboring communities. What impressed the GRSC Board most was SNK’s dedication to excellence, their use of educators with deep soccer expertise as trainers, and their strong ties to Glen Ridge. We are especially pleased to announce that Glen Ridge High School Girls Varsity Coach Oscar Viteri, a highly respected figure in our community, will be among the SNK staff dedicated to training our club's teams.
With nearly 25 years of experience in sports training, SNK Sports boasts a coaching team that includes highly qualified individuals such as Jon Panella with an A License and over 30 years of experience, Oscar Viteri with a National D License and a remarkable record at Glen Ridge High School, Leo Caraballo with a National D License and two decades of coaching experience, and Leonardo Licciardello, who brings four years of youth and club coaching experience with SNK.
SNK’s coaching philosophy emphasizes developmentally appropriate, outcome-based instruction aimed at nurturing well-rounded players who embody team spirit, character, and a drive for success. We are confident that SNK's coaching approach will create an ideal environment for our players to thrive both on and off the field.
To introduce SNK Sports to our community, the GRSC Board and SNK will host an online introductory meeting later this summer. This session will provide an opportunity to learn more about SNK’s approach, meet some of the coaching staff, and address any questions you may have.
We are excited about this new partnership and the opportunities it will bring for our athletes. Please stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!
Travel team assignments will be sent via email by next Monday at the latest--thank you for your patience.
Best,
GRSC Board
GRSC & SNK Parent and Player Expectations
Our Philosophy
Our curriculum has been developed to provide developmentally appropriate, educational outcome-based soccer instruction that is designed to help each student become an overall well rounded soccer player and more importantly a well rounded individual that values team spirit, character, individual and team goals, and that is self-directed while always striving for success. The soccer experiences created by our coaching staff allows for the ideal learning environment.
Two factors that promote this environment are our carefully planned practice sessions and our ability to establish realistic expectations for each team. The focus of our instruction addresses the technical, tactical, psychological and physical components of soccer. All of our lessons have specific objectives that our coaches strive to achieve through motivation and proper instruction. The curriculum also provides our coaches with the flexibility to modify specific goals and objectives to ensure that the individual team goals are continuously met.
The game of soccer forces players to make several decisions at one time and many times also allows for players to resolve situations in different ways. Our emphasis is creating practice sessions that are as “functional” or “game realistic” as possible. This methodology is crucial for appropriate player development. Practice sessions usually progress from simple to complex activities. The frequency, intensity and duration of sessions are designed to meet the specific
needs of the team. Younger players will focus more time on fundamental technical abilities with the ball and as they become older the focus shifts towards more physical development training to address the higher demands of the game. Our comprehensive curriculum also addresses issues such as nutrition, proper fitness levels, mental preparation techniques, and injury prevention.

Soccer FAQ
WHAT IS PLAY-PRACTICE-PLAY?
Play-Practice-Play is a Grassroots developed philosophy designed around a player-centered approach to coaching. Taking a player centered approach places the needs and motivations of the player at the forefront of a coach’s approach to coaching his or her players. The concept of Play-Practice-Play is to allow young players to experience the game and game-like situations as much as possible. This approach differs from traditional practices that may have children standing in lines, running laps and participating in drills that don’t resemble the game of soccer. READ MORE
WHAT IS THE PRACTICE PLAN?
Our trainers design practices following US Youth Soccer’s age appropriate guidelines. READ MORE
WHAT IS SILENT SOCCER?
The US Youth Soccer's recommended coaching style is called 'Silent Soccer' and the intended result is to let the kids make their own decisions and learn/grow from the results, regardless if the results of the decision were positive or negative. READ MORE ON PAGE 42
WHAT IS PROPER SOCCER PARENT ETIQUETTE?
US Youth Soccer's recommendations for parents:
-Avoid coaching from the sidelines
-Do not criticize the referee
-Focus on the benefits of the game rather than the score
-Think when interacting with opposing fans
-Save issues with the coach for the next day
WHY IS SOCCER ROSTERED BY BIRTH YEAR AND NOT BY GRADE?
Using birth year registration ensures that players are training and playing in the proper age group, each with their own developmental needs. READ MORE FOR US Soccer's reasoning for using Birth Year instead of Grade Level for rostering soccer teams.
WHY DO PRACTICE TIMES START AT 3:30PM?
Due to the limited field space without lighting and 400 players across 3 programs (Travel, Festival, Developmental) we have to use as much daylight time as possible.
WHY DO WE PLAY SOCCER IN THE RAIN?
Practices will be held in the rain. Games are not cancelled for rain so it is important that the children have experience practicing in those conditions. We will try to wait as long as possible before cancelling sessions as weather is unpredictable. We understand that can be difficult for families schedules and we will do our best to make the decision early but that is not always possible.
Cancellations will occur in cases of thunderstorms and dangerous field conditions/poor visibility. (FYI the preschool, PreK and K sessions will have different conditions for cancellation than the older teams.) Cancellations will go out via email as well as update in TeamSnap. Please do not email the soccer board asking about cancellation- we have 400 children in the program and that is a lot of emails!
In the rare case that storms are threatening during a practice- please coordinate with parents on the team and make sure someone is available for an early pickup.
