GRAA floor hockey is open to boys and girls from K up to 8th grade (K-6 teams are co-ed, while 7th-8th grades are separate for boys and girls). Teams are split by age, and grouped as follows: K and 1st grade playing together; 2nd and 3rd playing together; 4th - 6th grade playing together; and 7th - 8th grade playing together. Games are on Saturdays for K - 3 and on Sundays for 4-6, 7-8. The season runs from December through February. Games last approximately 50 minutes and are always held outside at the Carteret rink weather permitting, and inside at the Ridgewood Middle School gym on foul weather days.
Emphasis is on fun, teamwork, and general hockey skills - checking is not permitted and the games are strictly regulated to promote sportsmanship and safety. Kids are required to wear helmets, hockey gloves, and hockey shin guards, and goalie equipment is provided. Parents are encouraged to help coach and become involved as much as possible.
